Advocacy
Right now, an unprecedented number of states are introducing and voting on bills that center around transgender youth. These laws are part of a nation-wide push to deny transgender people rights and access to public spaces.
Learn more about the basics of what it means to be transgender, as well as the reality of these harmful and unnecessary bills:

We advocate in Skagit County for LGBTQ people and their families in many ways:
- Participate in local Pride parades and events – Anacortes Pride, Stanwood/Camano Pride, Sedro-Woolley Loggerodeo, Whatcom Pride.
- Provide training to educate and build awareness of LGBTQ issues for local businesses, educational organizations, faith communities, schools, health care organizations, law enforcement and many others.
- Table with PFLAG brochures and resources at community events to provide info and show support for LGBTQ+ people and families – Concrete Youth Day, Anacortes Back to School Day, Sedro-Woolley summer concert series, local farmers markets.
- Respond with interviews or letter-writing on local issues related to LGBTQ community members. Testify at local school board meetings on issues relevant to our community-i.e., book banning, limitations on participation in school activities.
We are looking for volunteers to help us in these efforts. See our section on volunteering. We need you!!!
